What are Rock Sliders?

Rock Sliders, sometimes referred to as reinforced side steps; provide your vehicle with strong protection from some of the harsher terrain of the Australian outback. They are normally made from steel tubing and can include top-mounted metal plating for those that want door steps.

Why do I need them?

When travelling off-road, large rocks and obstacles on and off the beaten track have the potential to bend, dent, or even rupture the door sills of your vehicle. This can lead to problems with door seals and alignment as well as the obvious visible affects. When moving over extremely rugged terrain, rock sliders can also allow your vehicle to slide over obstacles that would otherwise get caught or stuck on side steps or wheel arches.

What about the side steps on my new beaut four wheel drive?

Since the beginning, four wheel drive manufactures have generally not fitted vehicles with the adequate protection they need to avoid damage from large rocks and obstacles in the Australian outback. Many vehicles come with side steps that are built to withstand the pressures of drivers and passengers getting in and out, but not much more. Experienced four wheel drive enthusiasts will tell you that a heavy encounter with a rock will significantly bend or break a manufacturer standard side step which can result in door sill damage or leave them vulnerable to further knocks. This is where rock sliders provide you with the ultimate in 4x4 vehicle protection.

What makes them tough?

Most side steps are made from relatively weak materials such as aluminium, thin alloys, or even plastic. TORQ4x4 Rock Sliders are built from Australian made thick steel tubing and toughened brackets. They're Australian designed and constructed, ready to bolt directly onto your vehicles chassis and provide the protection your vehicle deserves.

How do I maintain my Rock Sliders?

TORQ4x4 rock sliders are like any other metal part of your four wheel drive. Care should be taken to ensure that all the nuts and bolts are tight and that no cracks or stress fractures are visible. Make sure you check your sliders before and after any heavy four wheel drive adventures.

At TORQ4x4, we coat your Rock Sliders with tough paint, but rocks and boulders are inevitably going to leave marks and scratches. When they start looking less than their best just touch them up with a bit of rust preventative outdoor paint such as Killrust and they'll look as good as new.
