IN DETAIL

The Avenger Mako range of winches are synthetic rope friendly because they use an automatic double tapered cone brake on the end of the gearbox. As the brake is external to the spooling drum, there is no heat build-up in the drum like conventional in-the-drum-brakes found in other winches. This combined with the highly water resistant features and design, the new TDS series are a must have winch.

This listing is for the most popular selling model of the Mako winch range, the synthetic rope friendly Mako TDS 9.5. This winch is built to the highest specifications and manufactured specifically for off-road use. This means that the TDS 9.5 is made with the toughest conditions in mind.

 The TDS 9.5 winch uses waterproofing features including specially manufactured sealed motor drum supports and V-ring seals inside the drum flanges.

The Mako TDS 9.5 uses a 5.0hp motor yet runs so efficiently that it only draws 338 Amp hours at a full pull of 9500lb.

The TDS series winches use a rotating ring gear as pictured above. A rotating ring gear means the gears are ALWAYS set ready to pull which eliminates any final drive gear meshing that may occur as does in a conventional sliding clutch type winch. The easy turn freespool lever drops and retracts a huge 18mm pin into one of the eight provisions around the ring gear making the locking mechanism extremely strong. Using this type of ring gear also makes freespooling out a cable or rope much easier as it dramatically reduces the drag.

All Kingone winches use machined gears (not punched) and are made from high grade alloy steel for greater strength, anti-wear capabilities and high corrosion resistance. The gears are also pressed together within the housing for even greater strength.

The external brake is a postive double tapered cone brake which means that the more pressure that is applied to the cable, the tighter the brake is applied. This is very reassuring when you are on a steep incline and need that brake to lock on. The external brake is what makes our winch synthetic rope friendly as there is little to no heat build up in the drum. Heat generated by internal "in-the-drum" brake type winches can melt and or damage synthetic rope and are therefore not suitable.
